On 28.01.2017  Obersturmführer Kurt Sametreiter died in his Austrian home at the age of 94 years.
May he rest in peace!
Knight’s cross on 31. July 1943 as explicit and platoon leader in the 3. (heavy) Company / Tank Division 1 “Lssah”
Kurt Samet Rider was on 9. April 1922, the son of a mountain worker was born in Salzburg. Initially as a tank in the division ” tk “, later in the division “LAH” experienced Kurt experienced the fierce fighting at the eastern and western front up close. In Russia during the campaign came Kurt  and his panzerjäger repeatedly was on the  frontlines .
He received The Knight’s Cross for his courage in the enterprise “Citadel”.  The Panzer Army was attacked. The Germans had four guns, 16 man operation and a few men in the infantry. On the edge, there were 40 Soviet tanks attacked. Kurt and his men destroyed the enemy. dissabling 24 enemy tanks, and the rest broke off the attack.
After his use of the German Western front during the allied invasion of Normandy and a re-injury led him the duty in the cauldron of fifty. With lots of happiness and courage, Kurt , one of the last Knights Cross recipients,   march towards home.
