The beer price was set by the NSDAP government so as to be affordable and the poor were fed a meal on the first day. It was a celebration of German culture, tradition and food. In 1936, the colors of Bavaria and Munich were replaced by the official colors of the Reich (black/white/red). In 1938, after the annexation of Sudeten Germany (Sudentenland), the Oktoberfest was renamed in “Greater German festival” and many Sudeten Germans were brought to the festivities.
